Hey bookish friends,
I'm back with a book review for you. Audiobook style. This was last month's book club read and it has literally taken me weeks to get around to writing this review. I hate when that happens, but sometimes I want to "marinate" on it - as they say. Read on to find out what I thought of The Girl on the Train.
Publisher: Riverhead Books | Penguin Audio
Release Date: January 13, 2015 (first published January 1, 2014) Format: Audio MP3 Pages: Hardcover: 336 pages | Audio Length: Approx 11 hours Narrator(s): Clare Corbett, Louise Brealey, India Fisher Source: Audible Genre: Mystery, Thriller Review Date: September 23, 2015 Rating: 3 bookmarks Synopsis: Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Hey bookish friends,
I'm back with a book review for you. Technically this is a short story or novella, but it's still a book! A co-worker that also loves to read has been recommending Kim Harrison to me for what feels like several years. Since Harrison has a new series that's just started, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to check out her writing. Read on to find out what I thought of my first look into The Peri Reed Chronicles.
Publisher: Pocket Star
Release Date: August 10, 2015 Format: ebook Pages: 80 pages Source: Amazon Kindle Genre: Urban Fantasy, Science Fiction Review Date: September 14, 2015 Rating: 4 bookmarks Synopsis: Don’t miss this thrilling first look into the elite world of Peri Reed, government agency operative extraordinaire, and catch more of her character in The Drafter, the first book in the all-new suspense trilogy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison, out September 1. Every hero, even the accidental ones, have a beginning. Silas’s radical theory that drafters are not replaying time as much as they are temporarily sliding into an alternate universe has never been well-received, but frankly, the darling of Opti’s research has enough clout not to care, until a professor with a grudge tries to put a permanent end to it. Love can’t alter time, and sometimes, even being able to rub out a single mistake isn’t enough…
Sideswiped is a 80 page novella that takes place years before book one, The Drafter, begins so I got a peek into the origins of the series plot and see how it all begins. It's a great introduction into the world and characters.
While this is The Peri Reed Chronicles, the story is told from the POV of Dr. Silas Denier, Peri Reed does indeed make an appearance. I already have an idea what type of character she is, as well as a good grip on Silas's character. I suspect there may be some sort of relationship in the future between Silas and Peri, but we'll see.
Hey friends,
It's that time again, the weather is starting to cool down, it's getting darker sooner in the evenings, it's time to drink our cold weather favorites; hot cocoa, apple cider and the infamous Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. Along with the change in season comes many more hours designated for reading. After all, what else are you going to do when it's freezing outside and dark at 6pm?! I've got some fun options for you to snuggle up with in front of a fire. These are the books I'm most looking forward to reading during the upcoming fall season. No matter you're reading taste is, I've got a recommendation for you. Young adult? New Adult? Adult? Fantasy? Romance? I've got some fun options for you to check out. Happy Reading, ~Tamara
Adult Fiction
Blood Kiss (Black Dagger Legacy #1), by J.R. Ward
Release date: December 1, 2015 Genre: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy Synopsis: Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself…be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life. And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated—and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power…on the field, and off. Hey friends, I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. It's a holiday weekend and a lot of us have 3 days off! I'm looking forward to it, but before I can get my weekend started I have a few tasks to complete, which consist of finishing a book I've been trying to read for weeks, write a few blog posts and record a few BookTube videos - then I have the entire weekend to relax! This week I posted one video book review on my BookTube channel announcing the next Shelf Addiction online book club reads. We're going to start doing Google Hangouts book chats to discuss the selected books. If there are 4-10 people we'll do a video chat (that's the limit allowed on a video chat), if there are more than 10 participating, we'll do a Hangouts chat room. This will be totally private and by invite only, You've got to be a part of the group and RSVP for the event with your email address to participate. Sign up for the book club to read my in depth FAQ on the live chat. (http://tinyurl.com/np56wd9) As always, I've also included a few videos that I enjoyed from fellow BookTubers. Enjoy! Happy Reading, ~Tamara |
Find out what we're reading in September and October! The only requirement is that you be 18+ and love to read! We have one adult book and one new adult book this time. Check out the video to reveal what we're reading! | |
