Meet new platonic friends, in person and online using on Patook! I know that many of us book nerds are also introverts but that doesn’t mean that you don’t want to have lots of friends. We may not be the light of the party, or at the part at all because we’d rather be home reading, but when I saw this app I decided to give it a try. One can never have too many bookish friends! I’ve been using the app for about a week now and I really like it. I've already met a really cool book nerd that's coming to my next local book club meeting.
As the community grows and the app is updated with even more features it’ll be even more fun. When you think about it, it’s almost like a ‘Tinder for friends’ -- it works in a similar manner minus the flirting and hookup requests. I’ve never been on Tinder, but I’ve heard plenty about the swipe right vs swipe left. The app version functions in a similar way when matches are made, but instead of looking for a hook up or a date, this is literally looking for friends. Seriously. “NO flirting allowed” is their mantra. Let me tell you more.
Daytona Beach in February anyone? Yes please!!! I had a wonderful time in Florida at the Coastal Magic Convention. This was my first year attending and I'll be back next year.
My husband came along for a little mini vacation, which was a great chance to get out of the Michigan cold! Bookish fun during the day and into the evening, followed by dinners and some couple time with the hubby. It was a spectacular 3 day weekend. The weather was great, the location was great, and the people were great.
I met tons of awesome authors, bloggers, and readers during this weekend. I got a few photos of authors that were an absolute joy and I recommend all of their books! I've reviewed books by all three of these authors here the Shelf Addiction Blog. Check outKait Ballenger book reviews, Lara Adrian book reviews, and Jennifer Estep book reviews.
Besides the authors that I was familiar with, I made connections with very talented authors that I have yet to read. My TBR (to be read) list has grown even more! I can't express enough, how cool everyone was. The small 300 attendees at the con really was the perfect environment to meet people in a less hectic setting.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you rang in 2017 with friends, family, books.... or however you liked! This is going to be a great year. Set yourself up so that this is your best year yet, get positive, get motivated! I am, and I hope that you are too! Without further ado, let't jump into it.
I signed up for the Audiobook challenge with The Book Nympho and Hot Listens. My target was 28 audiobooks which puts me at Binge Listener (20-30) level. I'm happy to report that I've completed 30 audiobooks in 2016!
Have you ever thought about taking notes while reading? I found this great article over on Mocha Girls Read. It's all about taking notes while reading or keeping track of what you're reading with comments in a journal format. I think this is a great idea and I do it myself. It's a great tool for reviewing books and discussing with a group! When you read lots of books back to back, it's easy to lose the details over time. Note taking to the rescue!
The post on Mocha Girls Read is about taking handwritten notes. They even show off a few very cool journals to do so. If you are a tactile person, and like to write your notes, or like to see everything on paper, that is a perfect blog post for you to check out.
I decided that I would write a short reaction post on this topic as well since I've taken notes while recreational reading for years. I do so in a very different manner. I don't use a journal or pieces of paper or sticky notes. I have been taking electronic style notes for at least the past six years, pretty much since the inception of my blogs. I'm actually even writing the draft of this post in Evernote. Don't get is twisted, taking notes while reading is not just for when you're in school!
If you missed the announcement, I'm now doing podcasts! I seriously love it. It's a medium that I've wanted to try for a very long time and I finally took the plunge. I'm glad that I did, because I'm looking forward to many more. I have lots of awesome show ideas and I can't wait to record them. Have you been listening to my podcasts? I hope so, because I've been having a blast doing them and I have lots to share with you. Take a listen and catch up on my last three episodes now.

Welcome to the very first episode of the Shelf Addiction podcast! This has been a long time coming and I finally took the plunge. Thanks in advance for your patience as I work out the audio. I sound pretty far away for some reason, but I hope you enjoy the episode regardless. It will be 100% fixed for episode two. I hope that you'll take a listen and let me know what you think.
My special guest, Samone, and I talk about ways to read more books. We also take a quiz to find out what type of reader we are.
