Answer: Shelf Addiction is my baby, but it's not my first blog. I started casually blogging years ago because I wanted a place to write down my thoughts and vent on random things, which morphed into two different blogs, Blissful In Michigan and True Foodie At Heart. Shelf Addiction has been a long time coming. I have been reviewing for 15+ years. Literally, I used to review the books I read with a rating system and put them in this 3-ring binder. I was so tired of writing out my reviews I eventually stopped that. Following that, I reviewing books for an online book club for about a year or so. I wasn't really enjoying the books I was given, so I decided to move on from that and get back to reading what I loved. Shortly there after, I discovered goodreads.com. I started reviewing there and I've been doing so for several years now. The point where I decided to start a book blog was when my sister came up for a visit at the holidays last year. We were just hanging around and I was giving her book recommendations and she found out that I had read 53 books last year. For the next week, she continued to comment that I should start a book review blog. Simply put, in the end, I was like " Yea, why didn't I do that earlier?!". Thus here we are, 7 months into my book blog and I am enjoying every minute! Reading the books I want and having a fun time writing about it. | 18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines. This is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 & over crowd, and make some new friends! Feel free to follow Shelf Addiction via NetworkedBlogs, Linky or Email subscription. If you are new to Shelf Addiction, please leave a comment below with how you're following and I will make sure to visit & follow your blog back. :-) Question: When going on vacay; do you pack your print books, ereader or both? Answer: I LOVE my kindle! My kindle is a gen 1 and I've had it for a little more than 2 years, but it's awesome and I still use it specifically for vacations. Daily I read using a Kindle App on my tablet, but my old Kindle has it's purpose. The E-ink is perfect for reading out by the pool or on a beach. Plus it's small and light weight. I never vacay without it! Not to mention, I've been known to lend it out to family for their vacations also. |

Weekly Meme, "Why I Love Wednesdays" is hosted by Alexis of Reflections of a Bookaholic . Each week she posts a Why I Love Topic that she answers. Check out Alexis' blog and join in the fun. The topic this Wednesday is ... Favorite Bookish Worlds I mulled over this a bit because there are several very good options to pick from. I decided to go with Partholon from the Divine series by P.C. Cast. I read the first 3 of 4 books and I really enjoyed them. The fourth book is a prequel, but I haven't gotten to it yet. This Divine series may less known than the blockbuster series we all know and love (you know the ones!), but don't sleep on these books, they make an impression. The mythical world of Partholon is full of magic and old worldliness. Partholon is a parallel universe and it felt like you were thrown back in time with tons of fantastical things, like centaurs, goddesses, and magic portals mixed in with castles, big gold jewelry and lavish outfits, wine for every meal and hot male servants and other fun medieval-ish stuff. The entire series didn't take place in Partholon, some of it took place in our "real" world during present day. Which I liked because it allowed for some nice contrast and really made Partholon seem all the more magical. The books are fun to read and I totally could "see" Partholon thanks to great description and attention to detail. I wouldn't mind taking a short trip to Partholon as a goddess! :-) Then I would happily return to the "real" world, where there is electricity! Happy Reading, ~Tamara~ "Book Haul Tuesday" is my weekly post where I take a peek at the newly released fiction books of the day. Then I post the books which I’ve added to my "To Read" list. I hope that I’ll motivate you to run out and pick up a new release or two for your shelf or reader! What new release will you be buying for you illustrious book shelf or reader? Listed in no particular order: The After Wife, by Gigi Levangie Grazer (Chick Lit) - This book is from the best-selling author of The Starter Wife. I loved The Starter Wife show on USA, but I had no clue it was a book before. I should have known. ;-) Needless to say, now I'm curious about this author! From what I understand this is not a series. I'm excited to read a humorously dark book. Plus I'm liking the cover art. 15 Seconds, by Andrew Gross (General Fiction) - This book sounds very intriguing. The description along sort of reminds me of the movie Crash. I loved that movie, so I'm sure I'll dig this story-line. Publisher: Razorbill Release Date: June 12, 2012 Format: Hardcover Pages: 414 Source: Library Loan Genre: YA Urban Fantasy Review Date: July 9, 2012 Rating: 3 bookmarks This review is mostly spoiler free, though it does have some strong opinions... :-) The Golden Lily was the much anticipated follow up to Bloodlines, the spin-off series to The Vampire Academy. Because I feel like I may go an a slight rant, and I don't want anyone to think I'm going off for no reason, first let me answer some important questions. Do I love Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series? Hell yes! Did I enjoy Bloodlines, Yep! Did I like the Golden Lily?:...well lets just say I was mildly disappointed. I guess I had high expectations for this book and it fell short. I understand that I am in the minority here, but let me explain why. "Book Haul Tuesday" is my weekly post where I take a peek at the newly released fiction books of the day. Then I post the books which I’ve added to my "To Read" list. I hope that I’ll motivate you to run out and purchase a new release or two for your shelf or reader! **New addition: Starting with this post, on the first Tuesday of every month I'll list the books that I've picked up for review during the current month. What new release will you be buying for you illustrious book shelf or reader? Listed in no particular order: Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, by J.D. Mason (AA Fiction) – This author usually writes some powerful books. I’m looking forward to this one! Hot In Handcuffs, by Shayla Black, Sylvia Day, Shiloh Walker (Romance/Anthology) - I just can't resist a fun anthology! Books I've picked up for review in July:
Publisher: Random House Audio Publisher: Random House Audio, Pub Date: March 8, 2011 Release Date: March 8, 2011 Format: Hardcover/Audio Pages: 352 (Hardcover)/ Listening Length: Unknown (9 discs) Source: Library Loan Genre: General Fiction Review Date: July 2, 2012 Rating: 2 bookmarks This book was one of our book club reads, thus I felt that I had to finish the book, no matter what. This book was added to our list because it was on many other suggested book club reading lists and it had generated a lot of buzz. First let me say that the author, Tea Obreht does have the amazing skill of detailed description. Which can be both good and bad. I started off reading the hard cover book, but I was so bored with it after 50 pages that I gave up and picked up the audio version instead. I was hoping that the audio would peak my attention better...not so much. I ended up re-listening to chunks of it at a time because I found that sometimes after listening for 5 minutes or so, I'd stop and say "What did I just hear?"...so then I'd rewind it and listened again hoping to get something out of it the second time around. I wrestled with giving this either 1 or 2 bookmarks. This took me almost a month to get through and that is unheard of for me. I could only take it in small doses! Publisher: Orbit Release Date: October 1, 2009 Format: Adobe EPUB eBook Pages: 384 (Mass Paperback) Source: Destination Download Genre: Steampunk Review Date: July 1, 2012 Rating: 4 bookmarks A quick mini lesson for the Steampunk newbies, what is Steampunk you ask? Basically Steampunk is a sub genre in the Science Fiction world. Steampunk can sometimes be a meld of fantasy, alternate history, horror, etc. For more details, refer to this Wikipedia page. This was my first visit to the world of Steampunk and this story was a good selection for me to dip my toe into the Steampunk pond. Since I already love Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy, this was a good mix of them both rolled into another time. But be warned, if you're a PR junkie, this is ultra light on the "romance" if you know what I mean! ;-) |
