Question: (1) What is a book that you didn't like that all your friends raved about or (2) what book did you love that wasn't popular?

Answer: I'll answer both parts.  I didn't care for Low Pressure nearly as much as EVERYBODY at book club. They all just loved that book. Let me tell you, I have no idea why. I mean it wasn't unreadable, but it definitely wasn't one of Brown's best either. It was barely "okay" to me.  I even guessed the killer correctly half way through.  I just didn't understand why they loved it so much.

I loved The Vampire Huntress Legend series by L.A. Banks, all the books are phenomenal to me, but not many people know about it. That saddens me, because that series was so amazing and I always talk about it and try to encourage others to read it.  That series is what jump started my love of Urban Fantasy books.

Please share your #FF post with me!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

Question: Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you’ve done, that as you gained more experience you were like — oops?

Answer: Mainly, I wish I would have used wordpress.org to build (thanks for the correction Lexxie!) my site.  I paid for the site that I'm using now, so I figured I'd stick with it and not waste money. Slowly my this company has begun making improvements with making new features available, so it's getting better. They have a long way to go to be even close to what WordPress can provide, but it's a step in the right direction.

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

Question: What is the last book that kept you up late into the night just to finish it?

Answer: Beautiful Creatures!  I was so anxious to finish this book, and now that I've finished it, I felt a bit let down with the ending! Ugh, I hate when that happens! My review will be posted soon! :-)

Question: If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exists what would it be and why? Ex.Fae {Submitted by @seeingnight}

Answer: None! Seriously. I read about a lot of vampires, werewolves, fae, witches, warlocks, half angels, demons and the whole nine. I wouldn't want to see any of them walking down the street! Period. What makes Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy and Fantasy books fun is that it's all pretend.  If it were real, I'm sure we all wouldn't be wanting to read about it so much.  :-)  What do you think?

Question:  What New Years blogging or writing resolution have you placed on yourself?

Answer:  I wouldn't say I have "resolutions" per say, but I did put in place 2 blogging tasks, 1 social task, and 3 reading challenges.  Check out my  post, 2013 Reading Challenges.

  • More author interviews. It's on my agenda this year to interview a few authors of books that I enjoy. To start, I hopefully can get a few indie authors. Authors, if you're reading this. Get at me if you'd like to be interviewed on the Shelf Addiction blog!
  • More giveaways! My goal is to do one giveaway a month! For my loyal subscribers and Shelf Addiction book club participants, I want to show my appreciation by doing more giveaways!
  • I'll be working on starting up the group that I came up with last year.  The GLBBA: Great Lakes Book Blogger Alliance.  I'm looking to make some new friends and start an annual meet up for us book bloggers in both the Midwest and Great Lake states.  The GLBBA is the current working name, but it isn't final yet.

Please share! What are your blogging resolutions?

Question: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM BOOK BLOGGING THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW BEFORE ABOUT THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY?

Answer:  I've learned a lot of things. I've learned tons of publishing terminology. I've learned where and how to find out about new releases, popular books, book trailers, galleys and ARCS.  I've even learned the steps to take if you want to get published. Not that I'm writing a book or anything, but it's nice to know that stuff anyways.

Share what you've learned!  Don't forget if you follow me, leave me a comment, and I'll be sure to follow back.

Happy Reading

Question: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

Answer: This is a split answer. I do in fact mind books with similar stories when it seems like I'm reading the same book again, but with slight differences.  I hate feeling like a book is a carbon copy with different character names.  I enjoy when authors within the same genre can stretch their minds and keep coming up with new and exciting things to write about.

With that said, I don't mind books with similar general themes. For example in Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance the base of the stories seem to have a similar formula and that's okay with me.

I don't mind retellings because sometimes it can be fun to read a different take on a traditional story. For example, the new books that have a different spin on classic fairy tales, like Cinderella, Snow White, etc.

I also like fan-fiction.  Have you ever read a book or watched a TV show and when it was over you wanted more? Well, hello fan-fiction. I've read a little bit here and there and I think it's fun to read.

What's your take on this subject?
Copycats = Bad
Example: 50 Shades of Grey and the one too many similar story lines & parodies...

Similar General Themes = Good
Example: J.R. Ward's series & Lara Adrian's series. Similar themes, but the stories and characters are very different.

Retellings = Good
Example: Traditional Cinderella and the new futuristic retelling-ish Cinder.
