Summer Lovin' RaT | The Page 99 Test Challenge

7/3/2013

Hey Summer Lovin' peeps,

Check out today's challenge, hosted by the Pink Ladies fearless leader, Meagan at Reviewing Wonderland!

The Page 99 Test is simple: After reading page 99, would you want to turn the page? If you have never done this before, the object of the game is to pick a book you have not yet read, turn to page 99 and read that page. Then you give a synopsis of that page and tell us if, based only on that page, would you want to read this book?

It's too funny, when I first learned what the Page 99 test was a few weeks ago, I started doing it in stores! When I saw an interesting book, I turned to page 99 and read. I found it really fun to do! It does give you a good idea of the content, the story and the writing style of the author. It's right in the perfect spot because usually the characters and plot are usually pretty developed by that point.

Please remember to give a synopsis ONLY, no spoilers and no plagarism.

Publisher: Viking Adult
Release Date: July 3, 2013
Pages: 304 (Hardcover)
Genre: General Fiction

Synopsis: Regina Gottlieb had been warned about Professor Nicholas Brodeur long before arriving as a graduate student at his prestigious university high on a pastoral hill.  He’s said to lie in the dark in his office while undergraduate women read couplets to him. He’s condemned on the walls of the women’s restroom, and enjoys films by Roman Polanski. But no one has warned Regina about his exceptional physical beauty—or his charismatic, volatile wife.

My Education is the story of Regina’s mistakes, which only begin in the bedroom, and end—if they do—fifteen years in the future and thousands of miles away. By turns erotic and completely catastrophic, Regina’s misadventures demonstrate what can happen when the chasm between desire and duty is too wide to bridge.

Seriously!!! OMG, this page was full of all out drama. The very first line was a woman yelling at Regina. Well, at first I couldn't tell if it was a woman or man yelling, but as I read on it was put into context.  So this woman, which her name wasn't said once, is yelling at Regina that their relationship has nothing to do with her relationship with her husband! Then Regina is apparently not understanding, sick of it the situation, clearly feeling hurt and wronged storms off crying. Of course said woman follows her and they argue a bit more outside. This page is FULL of drama, dang near Jerry Springer drama, but no physical stuff.  I'm like WHAT?!? What is going on? LOL.  I had no idea this book had a little bit of lesbianism in it....at least that's what it seems like from page 99! Clearly this book for adults.

So what that said, I will be reading and doing a review and giveaway of the hardcover book courtesy of the publisher (Viking) on July 15th,  so check back for it! Now that I've read page 99, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of what this book is about!

Please share your page 99 experience. I'll be making the rounds today reading as many as I can.

Happy Reading,
~Tamara (Summer Lovin' Pink Lady)

Summer Lovin' RaT | Must-Have Summer Reads

Today at the Summer Lovin’ read-a-thon we are discussing must have summer reads. I don't exactly have "summer" reads. but I do have a few reads that I'd like to get done this summer as they either are a new summer release or they have the newest book in their series that's new summer releases!

I want to read books Insignia and Vortex, by S.J. Kincaid.  There seems to be a little bit of hype about these books and I want to see if I agree...or not. :-) Plus I received Vortex, which is released today, in a giveaway so all the more reason to try it out! I love Sci-Fi, so it's a win-win.

Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-thon Recap

5/2/2013

The read-a-thon was this past Saturday, April 27th. And as I originally thought, my reading goals were a bit ambitious!  I may have been able to read more, but I totally had a bunch of interruptions. Sleeping, conversing with the hubby, a phone call or two, and I left the house a few times!

I ended up reading 3 books. Not too bad. I don't think I'll ever be able to tell my husband to get lost for the day so I can read....so I wouldn't count on doing much better next time.  At least now I know what my limit is.

I tried to Tweet throughout the day, which I think I did okay with. I have no clue how others were able to Tweet, Facebook and update with various blog posts all while reading.  That's just amazing!  Me, I had to choose one of the above.

Below are the books I finished.  I may try to do another mini read-a-thon on my own soon, maybe just a 12 hour. After all, I still have a bunch of books to still catch up on! :-)

Hey All!

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon is coming up!  It's on Saturday, April 27th, starting at 7am EST! Want to join in? Sign up here!

I decided to go with 8 books because I know it's not possible for me to read more than that in a 24 hour period.  There were a lot of books to choose from and it was indeed hard to pick only 8 from my never-ending TBR list.  I feel that my list is ambitious, but if I can get through the 4 or 5 of these, I'd consider the read-a-thon a success!  Click on each cover to be taken to the goodreads.com page. I put them in order, but I may skip around anyways!

I'll be doing one comprehensive blog post summarizing my read-a-thon experience the day after.  For updates throughout the day of, please follow me on Twitter and Facebook!

Hashtags: #Readathon #Dewey #MiniChallenge #RahRahReadathon

Are you doing the read-a-thon? If so, what's on your reading list?

Happy Reading!
