OK, here's my list bookish websites!

Goodreads - I've been placing my reviews on this website for a few years now. I love it. I like seeing everything that I've read in order and sortable by genre, year, author, etc. I also like using the html montages as you can see on my website. :-) It's also a great resource to read book reviews and interact with other book lovers.

BookLamp - I love this site because you can enter a book title and it gives you like titles. So if you love a specific book and you want to find more books in the same category, this is the place to look. On their website, they compare themselves to Pandora, and I'd say that's pretty accurate.

Shelf Awareness - Shelf Awareness is a free e-newsletter about books and the book industry. I LOVE their newsletters. So informative!

Lit Lovers - I've found some really good reading discussion questions and reading guides here. Great for when you need some help for book club meetings!

Edelweiss - An awesome on-line publisher catalog service. This page rocks, it has many uses. From finding new releases to new galleys. You can search by catalogs, date, publisher, subject, etc. It's pretty dynamic.

Paperback Swap - If you love your paperbacks or hardcover books but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars this is a good alternative. Mostly all the books are in pretty good condition which is wonderful, I think the participants have a pretty high standard of how to keep their books. A girl in one of my book clubs uses this regularly and she said she'd never gotten a bad book. Also, this is a great option if you're trying out a new author. If you're not into swapping books, you can always borrow from your local library!

I hope that I was able to introduce you to some new helpful bookish resources!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara~

Why I love… Rose from the Vampire Academy Series

This week was another hard pick. I literally though about the hundreds of books that I’ve read and tried to come up with my favorite character! Very hard task.  Last year I read the Vampire Academy Series. It’s still pretty fresh in my mind and I would totally read it again! What I like most about Rose is that she is bad ass. I tend to use that term regarding fierce Urban Fantasy heroins, but honestly, that’s the best way to describe them. I recognize that I really connect with strong female characters. There is nothing I dislike more than reading about a weak, “Help, save me!” type of woman, which Rose is the opposite of that.  For the most part she’s fearless.  She’s also smart, whitty and loyal.  Yes, she is slightly immature and bull headed at times, but what 18 year old isn’t?  Beyond those moments of immaturity, she is very mature in a lot of ways.  She protects her friends and knows what’s important. She does the right thing even when it goes against the grain.  Even though Rose is all of this things she is also woman, and has feelings and has been in love and heart broken, and finds love again. Rose has experirence that relationship rollecoaster, but her experience has more extreme ups and downs due to the whole vampire thing.  Even when the sistuation is very bleak, she manages to rise the occasion and get through it.

Whose your favorite character and why?

The topic this Wednesday is ... Book Couples

Why I love… Damali & Carlos from the Vampire Huntress Series.

Damali and Carlos are an unbelivable couple! They are one of my all time favorite couples.  If you haven’t read the Vampire Huntress Series by L.A. Banks, if you like Urban Fantasy please do! You’ll be addicted, that’s a promise!  Damali is kick ass strong, independent Vampire Huntress and can hold her own. Calos is bullheaded, magical, bad boy, mysterious and totally in love with Damali. The two of them are a real power couple. They are a kick butt and take names kind of couple. Not only are they fearless against evil, they are totally all about each other and would go to the depths of hell and back  for each other. And this literally happened in the books! Through out this series they have some huge obstacles to overcome, and you root for them to make it.  If you don’t believe in soulmates, these two may change your mind.

Read my reviews of The Vampire Huntress Series on goodreads.com

Really, I had a very hard time narrowing it down. Here are a few of my favorite couples from different eras.

New(er) School: Damali & Carlos from the Vampire Huntress Series
Old School (ie. When I was young): Gilbert & Anne from Anne of Green Gables
Classic: Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice

Who is your favorite book couple?
