Review

Shadow Hunter is apart of a two story anthology, After Dark (Lords of the Underworld #4.5) by Gena Showalter and Kait Ballenger.

Woah, this was good!   Kait Ballenger was able to give what felt like a full novel in a mere 200 pages. This story was full of action, hot romance scenes, vampires and of course a sexy hunter! Oh yea, I'm digging this. I can tell that The Underground Execution series will be one to watch.

I adored these characters! Seriously. So often the trend has been to make the vamps the heart throbs, but this time it's the vampire hunter who is hot and irresistible! I love the change of pace.

Damon is brooding, morning the loss of his best friend and partner, Mark. He's also out for vengeance. In the mist of hunting down Mark's killer he stumbles across Mark's little sister Tiffany. Tiffany herself is also no stranger to taking out Vamps. Though she isn't professionally trained hunter, she's no slouch and Damon gets more that he's bargained for.  The two of them become unlikely partners both with the same goal of taking down Mark's killer. We quickly discover that Damon and Tiffany have a history together, more than being connected only by Mark. So guess what this means? No instalove! Yes!

I thought the chemistry between them was spot on. The action scenes were also well written. The novella flowed and was a very fast read.  The story was complete and left you wanting to read more about the world of the Execution Underground.  I can't wait to read Twilight Hunter!! Which I'll be reviewing next month! You'll want to check back for that because I'll be holding a giveaway for a paperback copy!

If you're into the BDB series or even the Midnight Breed series, I feel this would be up your alley. Check it out!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

First let me say it was refreshing to read a YA book actually written by a young age author,  At the time this book was written Ardash was actually in the YA age. Solstice High was a fast read with likable characters.I liked that there were four leads instead of just the usual two. Two girls and two boys.  The story was told from each of their POVs by chapter. With four narrators that can be risky, thankfully all of their voices are distinct. You can tell whose narrating even without their names being posted at the top of each chapter (unlike another book I read recently).

This novel is a mix of teenage drama and fantasy, sprinkled with a healthy dose of pop culture.  You can really tell what decade these kids are from. That's not bad, but it was interesting to see references to Mean Girls, True Blood, Gilmore Girls and other pop culture things.

Let me do a quick run down of the characters for you.  Matt has been picked on and made fun all thought school He is coming to terms with being gay and has a crush on the captain of the swim team, Julian.  Rochelle is the self proclaimed "Queen Bee" and seems a bit temperamental to say the least.  Daphne has a dysfunctional and delusional family home life.  Jonas is a jock who is in love with Rochelle. Who is left alone for long periods of time, so it seems he's a bit of a loner.  Together, they are an odd bunch, but they work.

Teens with super powers, what's not to like? This book was a nice surprise and I perfect for your summer reading list.

Book Synopsis: Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there.

What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect something powerful and ancient to awaken in her and that strange whispers would urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, there’s suddenly a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them.

Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly-epic coming of age.

Blurb from Goodreads:
In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

In this action-packed debut, Glitch begins an exciting new young adult trilogy.
