If you haven’t read book one, For 100 Days, no problem. You can start here. Lara Adrian knows how to include enough of the history without info dumping the reader so you’ll be able to jump right in easily. This trilogy has a lot of the genre familiar tropes. A not so rich woman with a murky past who falls into bed (and possibly love) with a sexy, rich, domineering and powerful man with his own set of emotional hang ups.  Lots of things going on in this book are typical to the genre tropes, and yet - going into it knowing what type of book to expect makes it more enjoyable.  It’s a fun, quick and easy listen.

I'm a huge fan of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series, so when I learned of For 100 Days and then I got the opportunity to listen to it on audiobook, I jumped at it.  Read my review and find out why For 100 Days earned a 4 bookmark rating! But before you do, watch the interview I did with Lara last fall. She gives me the scoop on this title!

A woman who isn't afraid to explore every passion, even at its darkest, with a mysterious and seductive man who believes my mask is real.

Handsome and commanding, enigmatic and irresistible, billionaire Dominic Baine is an obsession I cannot afford and should not risk. He ushers me into consuming new pleasures and addicting new desires, until the line between my real life and the fantasy one I've stolen with him begins to blur.

I know I cannot keep my truth from him. I know my past will not stay buried forever. But before I can make it right, everything comes crashing down. I have deceived this powerful, dangerous man . . . and now there is a price to be paid.

For 100 Days was a treat to read. A sugary and hot treat! It's almost summer and For 100 Days is a perfect book for light and fun reading or listening. I don't read many books in this genre, but I'm always excited to talk about one that does certain types of "who's in charge" romantic situations well, and Lara Adrian did so.  I love a strong leading lady and Avery was that, but when it came to things in the bedroom, she was eventually able to yield to her man Dominic and their interactions in that arena didn't lessen the strength of her character. Which is a win-win in my opinion.

Synopsis: When Emily Wayborn goes home to visit her mom while on hiatus from her hit TV show, she receives a voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. Though the two were once notorious party girls, they haven't spoken in years. Although the message might sound benign to anyone else, Amber uses a safe word that Emily recognizes, a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild days. And what's more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.

Determined to track down her friend, Emily follows a chain of clues that lead her to the enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Now, in order to find Amber, Emily must seduce Reeve to learn his secrets and discover the whereabouts of her friend. But as she finds herself more entangled with him, she finds she's drawn to Reeve for more than just his connection to Amber, despite her growing fear that he may be the enemy. When she's forced to choose where her loyalty lies, how will she decide between saving Amber and saving her heart?

Disclaimer: The audiobook was provided to me by Audible Studios in exchange for an honest review.

First and foremost this book is not for everyone. This is a romance book, with a solid suspense plot, and lots of sex - kinky sex, BDSM sex, with lots of angst driven moments.  Basically the plot is full of drama, which always makes for fun reading.

The story is told from Emily's point of view.  Emily is a complex character with lots of issues. Her past is vulgar, shocking, and a little bit over-the-top at times. As we learn about her life with Amber and why their friendship split it's pretty clear that it wasn't healthy. Regardless, Emily feels that she owes it to Amber to help her. To find her.

Throwback Thursday | Review Edition: Amaury's Hellion (Scanguards Vampires, #2), by Tina Folsom

Throwback Thursday is my weekly feature which I created to post a review that I've written from the past. Every week I will post a review that I've written prior to my blogs existence. I'll be sharing both the books that I think you'd enjoy and the books that I should warn you against wasting your time on! ;-)

I chose to this book continuing with the theme of "Hot Summer Reads". Again, this book is near x-rated. 18+ only!

Publisher: Self Published
Release Date: November 14, 2010
Format: Kindle
Pages: 270
Source: Amazon Purchase
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Erotica
Original Review Date: June 20 2011
Rating: 4 bookmarks

Synopsis: Vampire Amaury LeSang is cursed to feel everybody's emotions like a permanent migraine. The only way to alleviate the pain is through sex. When he meets the feisty human woman Nina, a cure for his ailment seems within reach: in her presence all pain vanishes. Unfortunately, Nina is out to kill him because she believes he's involved in her brother's death. And she would succeed if only Amaury's bad boy charm didn't play havoc with her hormones and catapulted her into his arms and his bed every time she was near him. As every kiss brings them physically closer, danger is lurking and threatens to destroy the little trust they have in each other. Warning: explicit sex scenes.

These are times I'm thankful for ebooks because there's no way I'd be holding this book in public. The cover art just screams that it's a bit suspect.

This was pretty good read. Folsom's story line reminds me a little of J.R. Ward's series as far as the vampires mating and having a "blood bond" with human women. Similar yet still different. Again, the love seats were pretty hot. You will be entertained, that's for sure!  If you don't like reading about explicit sex, stay away, this may not be for you!  The good thing about this book is, even though the bedroom scenes are a bit cray cray, there is still a good story there too. So it doesn't seem like you're reading porn.  Maybe, a good story with a side of porn. Haha!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

Synopsis: You should sleep with a stranger, her best friend whispers in her ear as they take to Vegas for one last pre-wedding fling. Despite her best intentions, when Kasie Fitzgerald enters the casino and sees him, a man whose tailored clothes belied a powerful, even dangerous, presence, she loses herself to the moment. Maybe it’s the dress, much shorter than she’d ever normally wear, or the Scotch, but something makes her give herself over to him more completely than she's ever done with a man before.

It was supposed to be just one night. But right as she’s thinking she wants more, he shows up in her office with an agenda. As the billionaire CEO of a company that’s engaged her PR firm, his demands just became her reality...and he desires so much more than just some attention in the boardroom

I really thought about what I wanted to say about this book for a little while because I don't like nor enjoy giving critical reviews.  So what that said, I'll keep this review short and sweet.

First let me point out that the cover art is really nice and reminds me of other recent erotica covers, and in addition to the synopsis, that did draw me in.

This was a pretty short read.  I guess I'd classify it as a short story.  Sadly, this story in general really wasn't that good.  I found it seriously lacking, the characters didn't have much depth.  The story was a bit shallow also.  Not only that, I have real issues with the main character being a cowardly cheater.  I wish she had grown a pair and dumped that boyfriend that she had no interest in.  The story would have been more likable if maybe the boyfriend was an ex gone crazy instead a decent guy turned into a scorned nut case in the last few pages. I didn't really care for any of the characters, and I couldn't relate. At all. Not to mention the bedroom scenes weren't memorable either.

My advice, pass on this one.

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

Throwback Thursday | Review Edition: Samson's Lovely Mortal (Scanguards Vampires #1), by Tina Folsom

Throwback Thursday is my weekly feature which I created to post a review that I've written from the past. Every week I will post a review that I've written prior to my blogs existence. I'll be sharing both the books that I think you'd enjoy and the books that I should warn you against wasting your time on! ;-)

I chose to post this one because Summer is fast approaching and I thought it'd be fun to cover a few what I call "Hot Summer Reads". You know, basically sexy books aka smut aka borderline erotica that are fun to read while on vacation or while sitting on the beach or even your back deck with a drink in hand!

Obviously based on the cover art, this book is near x-rated. 18+ only!

Publisher: Self Published
Release Date: May 25, 2010
Format: Kindle
Pages: 270
Source: Amazon Purchase
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Erotica
Original Review Date: June 14, 2011
Rating: 4 bookmarks

Synopsis: Vampire bachelor Samson can't get it up anymore. Not even his shrink can help him. That changes when the lovely mortal auditor Delilah tumbles into his arms after a seemingly random attack. Suddenly there's nothing wrong with his hydraulics - that is, as long as Delilah is the woman in his arms.

His scruples about taking Delilah to bed vanish when his shrink suggests it's the only way to cure his problem. Thinking all he needs is one night with her, Samson indulges in a night of pleasure and passion.

However, another attack on Delilah and a dead body later, and Samson has his hands full: not only with trying to hide the fact he's a vampire, but also with finding out what secrets Delilah harbors for somebody to want her harm.

I read this in one sitting. Very fun and sexy read. If you're up for some light, fun, hot reading check this book out. I'd basically classify this as paranormal romance, heavy  on the sex, including kinky sex.  The story-line is strong and the characters captured my attention.

This series is starting off similar to other PR series. I can tell that each book will be focused on a new couple. and I'm pretty sure that as the books go along, the stories will incorporate more of the group into each book.  I'm looking forward to reading about the other men in the Scanguard Vampire line up. This should series be fun!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

Review: Fifty Shades of Grey, by EL James

What can I say about this book....hmm...it was okay. Just okay. I'm not really sure what all the hype was about. I didn't find this book well written, I actually saw a typo or two.  It was a little bit repetitive and juvenile in some ways.  I heard that originally these stories were Twilight fan fiction.  I could indeed draw some parallels from Ana and Christian's personalities to Edward and Bella's.  Honestly, I can't understand how this book reached bestseller status.  Maybe people just want to read something "hot"...

Personally, I didn't care for Ana nor Christian.  Ana is very naive and young. It's that classic, enter rich guy, sweep young inexperienced girl off her feet and teach her something...blah!  Christian is stuck in his ways and thinks he knows everything.  Typical type A.  They were both annoying.  Christian and his hang up on her biting her lip and Ana with her inner monolog between her "Inner Goddess" and her "Subconscious"...just ridiculous.

I like to read about strong women. I don't like weaklings.  Yes, the author attempted make Ana appear as strong willed. She did this by making it somewhat difficult for her to bend to Christians will, but she did it anyways.  I knew she would. As the book goes on, she dips her toe into the Dom/Sub pool and she isn't sure if she likes it or not.  The book goes on and on with Ana going back and forth. She trying to deal with Christians needs, yet find out if she can even deal with his needs etc... Now onto the sex scenes, they were okay. Again, just okay. Nothing to write home about. Yes, they were kinky and BDSM laden.  One sex scene in particular was gross to me, yes, I said gross.

I think this is one of those love it or hate it books.  Will I continue on to read about Christian and Ana? Nope.
