Why Listening to Audiobooks Count as Reading

I'm sure you've heard the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover." That's because sometimes the most beautiful covers hide the ugliest stories and vice versa. But what about audiobooks? Are there some books that are better to listen to than read? And should we make exceptions for these kinds of books when considering if we read or listen? I'll answer all these questions below!

Listening to a book counts as having read it.

Listening to audiobooks counts as reading a book. Listening to an audiobook is a great way to get more reading done in less time (if you're used to speed-reading or listening really closely). This is especially true if you have trouble focusing on one task for very long periods of time, or if you tend to lose focus easily while reading.

Listening while driving or working out can be distracting, so it's best if the narrator doesn't talk too much over music. If there's a lot of dialogue between characters, it may be difficult for someone who isn't used to listening closely enough: In this case, try turning off the music and just listening carefully!

Listening to a book may help you remember it better.

It's been shown that people who listen to audiobooks are more likely to remember the information in them than those who read the same books. This is because listening requires more effort from your brain than reading because you have to process both what you see and hear simultaneously. So if you're planning on doing some serious studying, consider giving yourself (and your brain) a break by listening instead of reading.

Here's how this works: Your eyes and ears take up different parts of your brain, so when they work together, they make it easier for your brain to retain new information. Listening helps stimulate more neurons which makes it easier for the synapses in these neurons to fire together as a group (instead of individually). When these synapses fire together repeatedly over time, this strengthens their connections with each other which allows them all to work better together in future tasks requiring memory recall or recognition.

Imogen is an award-winning actress and writer. She is best known for her voice work and has narrated hundreds of audiobooks as well as starring in audio dramas and being the voice of The Harry Potter Quiz on Alexa UK and The Wizarding World Quiz in the US. Imogen’s debut novel ‘Death and the Burlesque Maiden’ – inspired by her past life as a burlesque dancer and performance poet - will be out on Audible Originals in early 2021. Imogen is tall, fairly weird, has tattoos and happily does not fit into any recognizable box in the entertainment industry.

Imogen Church has narrated ONE BY ONE, but also many more of Ruth Ware’s audiobooks, several of which have made their way onto AudioFile’s list of Best Audiobooks in the past, including THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 and THE DEATH OF MRS. WESTAWAY.

Daily Blogging? | Blogtober Day 1

10/1/2020

Sooo....yea, an actual blog post. One that isn't a book review or a podcast. Strange times! I hate to admit, but I have neglected the "blogging" part of blogging over the last year or so. With the focus on the Shelf Addiction podcast (which will continue) and social media (I LOVE Instagram), I have let my personalized style of blog posts sort of drop by the wayside. I'd like to get back into the grove of sharing my own recommendations, ideas, and more here on the blog!

How will I do it? I decided to take part in Blogtober. I've taken a few topic ideas from various blogger idea lists as well as incorporated my own ideas. Some posts will be longer, and some shorter. Most of it will be book related, but I hope to add some personal things as well. In addition to my regular posting schedule, the goal is to post something every day specifically for Blogtober.

My hope is that this reignites my creativity and will motivate me to write daily on this blog for the entire month! With that said, I hope this will also keep me motivated to continue writing here on a regular basis.

If you don't follow the blog regularly, you should! October will be a month to remember. If you're team-blog, then you'll really enjoy this month!  If you have a specific topic that you'd like me to cover, leave a comment below. Wish me luck!
