Hey blogger and book friends!

For those that are familiar with my blog, you know that I really enjoy a good audiobook.  There'e more than one way to read. Some like graphic novels (aka comic books), some like poetry, but I like audiobooks.  Let me tell you why.

  • Audiobooks allow me to consume even more amazing stories! Yes, I read 1-2 books aweek, but with a full time job, a husband, and other obligations, I can't read 24/7 (even though I'd like to).  Audiobooks allow me to listen on my drive to and from work, while at work, while I'm getting my hair done, etc.  Whenever I can't physically read, an audiobook fills the void.
  • I get to see the story from the authors eyes.  I feel that audiobook narrators add their own flavor to the story. A narrator can make or break a good audiobook because it's more than someone reading words on a page.  A good narrator can pull the listening audience in and connect them to the characters and the story.  Audiobooks are sometimes big productions, I've heard of some that have music and sound effects during certain scenes for additional drama.
  • They're fun to listen to and I find them more entertaining than listening to the same 10 songs repeated on the radio.

While I don't think listening to audiobooks replaces reading, I do find it to be a wonderful addition to my reading list.

Another great source I like to use is my local library's Overdrive collection and when they don't have a book I want I use Audible.

Want to give audiobooks a try? Check out a few of my favorites on audio below (in no particular order). I've enjoyed them all and would recommend them!

Happy Reading & Listening,
~Tamara

I agree. Audiobooks are a great way to read reading in when you can't still down with a regular book.

I also love audiobooks! I wouldn't read nearly as many books if I didn't also listen while driving. Though I've found out numerous times that fantasy or highly literary books do not work for me while driving. Most YA, most contemporary romance, and non-fiction work. Something about fantasy, my attention span can't work to both drive and listen.

I like non-fiction on audio too. It seems to make drier material more digestible. I've listened to the Immortal Rules of Henrietta Lacks and The Secret, which were both pretty good.

I recently discovered audiobooks and am thinking of listening to them when I drive.

I hope you give it a try, audiobooks while driving is a staple for me. The regular radio has become foreign!

Although at times I like hearing a narrator's interpretation of the story, for me reading is all about making a story my own. Sometimes I find myself disagreeing with how the narrator makes a character sounds and it ruins the experience for me :( There are some audiobooks I really enjoy though! Great answer, hopefully I'll see you around again soon!<br />

I have the same problem. I always want to read more, but there's never enough time. I should start listening to audiobooks again. If only I wasn't so easily distracted. Great post! :D

I want to check out audio books but haven't actually done it yet. I'm sure they would be good for the gym, instead of listening to music I could just put on a book.

Great idea Ashley. Working out your body and brain at the same time, win-win. :-)

I've recently just discovered audio book and found it such a great experience! As you mentioned, the narrator really adds flavour to the book. However, I found it difficult to listen and do other things. How do you multi-task?
