Synopsis: Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Wicked is set against the backdrop of present day New Orleans. The perfect locale for creatures, in this case we're dealing with the Fae. Lot's of Fae. To save the humans from being consumed by them, the Order a group of humans trained in killing the Fae, are fighting them off everyday. Our main characters, Ren and Ivy are apart of this secret society and they are pulled into the drama of finding and protecting doors into the other world where the Fae are plotting to come and take over the world by storm.  That's a quick and dirty on the plot, so let's jump in the the meat of the story, the characters.

Ren, Ren, Ren. If only he was real and not a character...women all across New Orleans would be chasing him down. It's been a long while since I've liked a male character so much. He's got that balance of a dose manly testosterone, sensitivity, and strength. Yep, that trifecta that makes all women swoon. It's hard for a lot of authors to balance a strong man without making the woman appear weak, needy, or controlled, but Armentrout is very good at it.
Ivy is another winner in the character arena. It's no secret that I like a strong heroine and Ivy is just that. Strong willed and a little snarky. This type of character is always fun to read. She's also a little slow when it comes to certain matters of the heart and a tad naive regarding her abilities to handle a seriously bad situation,  but I blame that on being 22.  Conflict is essential, and her hot headedness adds to the drama factor. Without it, it'd be a snooze fest, and nobody wants that.

I enjoyed the plot and the pacing of the story. It's a fun, quick read that's perfect for some light reading.  Evil villians, friends that are questionable at best, and a history of war between Fae and Humans keep things from getting too mushy and the romance level within reason. Not to mention that cold water, also known as a Brownie named Tink, is doused on them a time or two.  While the sexual tension and sex scenes with Ivy and Ren were very hot on the heat scale, I liked that this story didn't turn into a full on romance. The threat was loud and present and that kept the story moving forward with action.

With only the first book published, I didn't feel that instant attachment to this series like I did with the Lux series, but it has potential.  I hope that the second and third book will get better and better. I was initially sitting at a three bookmark rating, but after thinking about it for a few days, I felt a four bookmark rating was more appropriate. I enjoyed the read and I'll definitely be reading Torn, the second book in the "A Wicked Saga". I can't wait to see what becomes of Ren and Ivy now that the latest discovery has been laid out on the table in the cliffhanger.  Have you read Wicked? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Before I go, I'm happy to share a few quotes that caught my attention.

“You wouldn't lie to me, would you, Tink?" "No." He grinned. "You have Amazon Prime.”
“I'm a lot of things, but today I'm your fucking saving grace.”
"Honey, I know what you need and you're going to get it.”

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

I was curious what you would think about this book, and it looks like they agree. I enjoy Wicked, but like you said it just wasn't as good as her other series. Have you read the covenant series yet?

Hey Tiffany,

I haven't read the Covenant Series yet. It's on my agenda. Did you read it? How was it?

I did! It was really good. I think it's my second favorite to her Lux series. I liked it a lot more than Wicked. That's for sure.

I have this on my TBR, so I may get to it soon. Everyone seems to love JLA's books. I'm enjoying her Lux Series for the most part, but it's not really great. It's a fun, easy series. Great review!

Thanks Lekeisha!

If you do end up reading this one, I'd like to know what you think. I hear some of her other series (outside of The Lux series) are stellar, but I haven't read them yet.
