This review is spoiler free, so if you haven't read the book or seen the movie yet, no worries, I've got you covered!

This is the second installment the Jack Reacher movie franchise and it's based on the 18th book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. I've read the first book in the series, but I haven't come close to reading the 20+ books in this series. I suspect because there is no correlation between the book order and the movie order, they are choosing the best adaptable book based on plot. Which hopefully means that the books are compartmentalized plot-wise to a certain extent.

With that said, I enjoyed this movie. It was fun, witty, fast paced and in true Tom Cruise style, action packed.

Some of the action scenes are a bit over the top and completely fitting for this type of movie. The opening scene is a perfect set up for what the rest of the movie will be. Cobie Smulders was a good fit in her role opposite Cruise. I love a strong female lead and Smulders delivered. I didn't feel like I was watching an extended episode of Marvel's Agents of Shield, and that a good thing. The romance never really gets off the ground, but I'm okay with that because taking a "romantic break" in a high stakes situation can come off as fake and forced, so with that said - I'm good with the level of non-romance in the movie. Instead it's all about the race against time to find out who's framing them, which should be the main focus.
While it wasn't as gritty as the first movie, this installment picks up four years after the first and I found that the Jack Reacher character seemed consistent over all.  I think that the secondary plot and Reacher's connection to a young teenager, played by Danika Yarosh, provides an additional layer and humanized the Jack Reacher character a bit. I was satisfied with the performances, and the director (Edward Zwick) put together a cohesive movie.  While some parts were a tad cheesy, I found the fight scenes fun, the banter witty, and the plot engaging.  If you liked the first Jack Reacher movie, then you'll enjoy this one as well. Maybe even more than the first. If you've been reading and loving the books, it's definitely worth the watch,
