The first thing, is that I'm glad that I did not see this in the theater. I would have been annoyed if I had spent $14 bucks on the ticket. I really don't like sad movies or books but, because I read this already for book club, this was a great choice to watch so that it qualifies for my book to movie adaptation reading challenge.
No surprise that the book was better. If I consider the movie alone, I'd rate it higher than I would when comparing it to the book. Thankfully the movie contains the most important parts of the book. But on the down side, there were other parts from the book that really explained things on a deeper level, and some of those scenes were either excluded, lacking or changed all together. With that said, I still think this movie is a fairly good BTMA.
I did in fact like the actors and actresses that they selected for the characters. They all fit what I visualized when reading the book. I do believe that the cast upped the value of the movie. They delivered a believable performance and they validated the 2 hours I sat to watch the movie. This was indeed one of those one time watch movies. I can't imagine anyone wanting to see this more than once. This movie would bring up good opportunity to open dialog about certain topics, such as war, racism, dictatorship along with a few other touchy subjects. Be sure to check out my review of the book! |
