Question: Happy Mother’s Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?

Answer: I'm going to toally veer away from the answer most everyone has.  I had to really think about this. In many of the YA books, the parents aren't really the focus. Since they are always secondary, they seem to blend into the background most times.  Adult and New Adult sometimes have parents, but again, they are far and in between and not the focus. I went with moms from  two series that I really enjoy. One from an YA series and one from an adult series.  Both series are Urban Fantasy... surprise, surprise! LOL
Picture
Jocelyn Fray/Fairchild from the Mortal Instruments series.  She's Clary's mom and also an ex-Shadowhunter. At first I wouldn't think of her as mom of  the year or anything, but as the series progress you can tell that she's all about protecting her family and it comes to be revealed that she went above and beyond to do so. Once Clary knows who and what she is and starts the good fight against evil Jocelyn steps up to the plate when needed.  She's the typical over protective mom, but beyond that Jocelyn evolves as this series progresses, and I like that about her.

My second pick is Justine from the Night Huntress series. Justine is Cat's mom. And it's very clear right off that she has serious issues and she seems very mean. But we learn of her past, her struggles and it made me like her a bit more. Then I think around book three, she really starts to make big changes and her character, though still mean and smart mouthy, you can tell that she's transforming. Literally. How she thinks of supernatural beings, vampires and especially and her daughters husband starts to slowly change.  She is another mom who has evolved over the course of the series. I really like her now. She has Cat and Bones back.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Who are your favorite fictional moms? Please share!

Happy Reading,
~Tamara

I thought of Jocelyn as well, but then I thought of how she wasn't there for like, half the series. So, meh. And I've never read anything by Jeanine Frost! :)

You're right, she was there for about half the series. But I think she still had enough presence and impression on the story to count. ;-) I'll be checking out your pick shortly.
