You all know - or you should know that I love the Mercy Thompson series!  If you've followed my blog then you'd probably be able to guess that I'd pretty much drop everything to read a Mercy Thompson or Night Huntress series book.  If you don't know, now you do. Read on to see my thoughts on the last installment, Fire Touched.

Synopsis: Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

This installment picks up a few short months after the disastrous endings of the last fight.  Several months later Mercy and Adam have basically returned to the normality of their lives (depending on what you'd consider normal) in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.  Of course that doesn't last long because Mercy, Adam and the pack start this action packed book off by taking down a troll with the help of a new character. Enter the fire touched human boy named Aiden,

I enjoyed all of the characters as well as the plot.  As with all of Briggs books, the plot moves fast and it's over before you know it.  Seeing Zee, Uncle Mike, Ben, Honey, Mary Jo, Warren, Jesse and more, always add lots of witty banter to the interactions.  I think what stood out to me most regarding Adam specifically is that he finally...yes, finally - told his pack where the line was and what would happen if they crossed it. It's about time that the pack became Team Mercy. I was glad to see that finally come to pass. Mercy's always had drama with the pack at large and with all of the enemies she and now this pack have, they need to be united as a unit instead of infighting. It's crystal clear that Adam has a huge amount faith in Mercy and he trust her instincts all while not giving up any of his Alpha maleness.  I really love how their relationship has developed. He backs her up 100% and that alone is very attractive on a man.

I especially liked some of the mythology and how it tied into the story.  I wasn't sure what to make of Aiden and how underhill tied into his back story, but in the end I really liked his character and I'm looking forward to seeing him in future series entries. The consequences of the pack helping Aiden and making their territory a safe zone will have long lasting effects and I'm curious to see how Bran deals with it all going forward. It stands to be noted that there wasn't much vampire interaction going on this time around, which leads me to expect some conflict from their side in the next book.

I listened to Fire Touched on audiobook same as all the previous books in this series. Patricia Briggs writing and Lorelei King's voice. What's not to love? King does a stellar job delivering this story and I have come to expect no less from her performance.

While I enjoyed this title, this didn't seem like a pivotal book in the series, it felt more like a filler to push us to the next big story arc.  Even though there wasn't a jaw dropping cliffhanger, I suspect that we've been set up for a major OMG moment in the next book, which I thoroughly am looking forward to.

Have you been reading the Mercy Thompson books? If so, let me know where you are in the series and what you think of it so far.

Happy Reading & Listening
