100% adult read. No kiddies aloud. If you’re timid about reading some very sexy scenes, beware, because this book is packed full of them. Note the cover art. This pretty much tells you what you’ll be reading. Gabriel’s Mate is a fun read, not too much depth and lots of action, romance and of course, hot bedroom scenes. We know the formula, but it works and it’s entertaining. It’s nice to shake things up sometimes and read something light and adult once in a while.
Even though some of the intimate scenes are pretty scandalous, the other scenes are equally interesting. Maya is bitten by a rogue vampire and becomes a vampire herself, yet something is very off. She doesn’t want to drink human blood, she wants Gabriel’s blood. Between Dr.Drake and the witch he knows, Francine, that Gabriel discovers that both he and Maya aren’t 100% vampire. I’ve never read anything about “Satyrs” before, and I’ve read a lot of Urban Fantasy books. I wonder if that is something that Ms.Folsom just made up, if so, that was pretty interesting and it really fit the story. If you don’t already know what “Satyrs” are known for, too bad, because I’m not going to explain it in this review. LOL, you’ll have to read it yourself.
Along with Maya discovering who she is, she quickly figures out that she has fallen for Gabriel. On top of those two intense things, she also has to deal with the rogue who bit her and has been stalking her for months. Though I figured out who the bad guy was pretty quickly, it didn’t deter me from wanting to read on. I think it’s easy to put two and two together. Possibly the author could have made that part a little harder to figure out. Regardless, Maya and Gabriel are endearing. Very cute couple and their flaws make them perfect together. They have some kinky stuff going on, but don’t all the Scanguard Vamps?
As I read the book, it refreshed my memory about the first two Scanguard books I’d read a while back, the story of Samson and Delilah and Amaury and Nina. Both of those books were good also. There is an excerpt of book 4 at the end, and I’m looking forward to reading it because Yvette finally gets her mate the next book. I even wonder if Thomas, the gay vampire in the group, will get his own book...possibly involving Eddie?! Hmm, the possibilities are interesting.
If you liked the first two books, you’ll enjoy this one as well.
