Julianne Moore was a terrific villain. Quirky yet utterly devious. Let's not forget the Elton John (playing himself). Wow he was so hilarious. Especially towards the end of the movie. From the trailers alone I had the impression that Channing Tatum would have played a bigger role than he did. They could have used him more. Never fear Tatum fans, it seems like they set his character up for a bigger role in the third installment should there be one.
As this is a rated R movie, cursing and vulgar sex scenarios (particularly one that was uncomfortable to watch) were definitely present, so if you're not one to get a laugh from sometimes cringe worthy moments, this isn't the movie for you. Add to the mix elaborate and not quite possible gun fights and this movie is abrasive and just in general a entertaining time. Suspend disbelief and enjoy this high action spectacle! While the action scenes were over the top, very cool visually and high energy. Especially the robot dogs! Over all the comedy was quite literal at times. I actually found myself laughing out loud quite a bit. There were a few parts where it felt that the "president" character in the movie was a spoof (or poking fun of at the very least) of the current American President...well, each viewer can draw their own conclusions on that, but that's how I interpreted those scenes. I would love to know if that was Vaughn's intent.
Technically this a spoof of sorts (007 vibe), so if you're not sure if you'd like this type of movie, be sure to watch the Kingsman: The Secret Service, before heading to the theater. Speaking of the first movie, if you want to see this installment without spending the time to watch the first movie, you don't really have to. You may miss a few call backs, but you won't be confused nor will you even realize it's a call back to the first movie. This is 100% watchable without seeing the original. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is definitely geared towards a niche group of movie goers and it mostly hits the mark. While not as great as its predecessor, it's a strong installment to the franchise.
