Must Have Fall Treats | Blogtober Day 5

10/5/2020

I have a few snacks that I indulge in once and only in the fall time. It's a tradition of sorts. If you haven't had any of these, you must at least try them! I insist. I even have a fall drink recipe for you to indulge in.

If you try it and love it, please come back and leaving me a comment and letting me know. If you have a favorite fall snack, please share what it is! I like discovering new seasonal treats!

I admit that I do adore a well made, not too sweet, pumpkin spice latte. But, one that actually has pumpkin, so that's a "no" on the Starbucks version.  I came up with my own recipe, do give it a try!

Tamara's Pumpkin Spice Latte
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 5 mins
Servings: 1 serving

Equipment
  • Handheld Frother
  • Small Pot
  • Whisk
Ingredients
  • 1 cup of milk of your choice
  • 2 Tbsp canned pumpkin (I prefer Libby's)
  • 1-2 tsp light brown sugar (Use less or more depending on how sweet you want it.)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Generous pinch nutmeg
  • Generous pinch ginger
  • Very small pinch ground cloves
  • 1 shot espresso, Substitute 1 ounce strongly brewed coffee (I go with a double shot since I like a strong latte!!)
Instructions
  • In a small saucepan, combine milk, pumpkin, brown sugar, and spices. Use a whisk to gently stir and fully combined all the ingredients. Warm to a simmer, and remove from heat.
  • Using a handhed frother, froth the milk until foamy. Alternatively, you can use a hand whisk to aerate the milk. Pour milk in to a mug. Dollop the amount of foam that you prefer on top.
  • Add espresso shot(s), and sprinkle with additional cinnamon and nutmeg.

Sweet Treats...

I get one bag of candy corn a season in early October, yes, candy corn. Only the Brach's brand. I mix them with roasted salted peanuts and they are so great together. It actually tastes really similar to a PayDay. I never eat that candy bar, but I recall it from my childhood Halloween bag. The salty peanut really cuts the sugary sweet of the candy corn.

This combo discovery I can thank my Mom for. She eats it this time of year, and I got curious years ago and tried it. Of course it turned out to be delish. Candy corn is one of those things that once a year is more than enough. By the time I get through the one bag, it's Thanksgiving and I'm tired of it for the year.  Turns out this combo has become very poplar over the years, so you can actually buy it as a mix now days.

I visit one of the local apple cider mills once a season. I try to go to different ones every year, but they all are awesome. It's like a law around here with so many apple orchards and cider mills within driving distance. While there I pick up 3 things. Carmel apples with nuts, cinnamon sugar donuts and of course a 1/2 gallon of apple cider. Hot cider and donuts is an unbelievably addictive combo. Especially when it's fresh right from the cider mill or orchard. If you're a SE Michigan local, then you already know! If you're ever in the area, I recommend the Franklin Cider Mill.

I've shared my top and recommended fall treats. What do you indulge in during the fall season? Please share in the comments.
