As the community grows and the app is updated with even more features it’ll be even more fun. When you think about it, it’s almost like a ‘Tinder for friends’ -- it works in a similar manner minus the flirting and hookup requests. I’ve never been on Tinder, but I’ve heard plenty about the swipe right vs swipe left. The app version functions in a similar way when matches are made, but instead of looking for a hook up or a date, this is literally looking for friends. Seriously. “NO flirting allowed” is their mantra. Let me tell you more.
Finding friends: Patook connects you with men and women that you choose with similar likes and interest. I really like the feature that says you only want to see people that will NOT be attracted to you…what does that mean? Well as a straight woman, I won’t see lesbians nor straight men. I’m looking for friends so I only want other straight women or gay men. It’s another safeguard to ensure platonic friendships and keep the “dating” feel away. Say you want friends to play video games with...cool, look for people with the same interests. Same for TV, Movies, hobbies (like reading), etc. Say you're married and you only want married friends - no problem, mark that as a requirement.
You can find people near you if you want to make in-person friends only or you can search more broadly say if you’re moving to a new area or just want on-line chatting friends. I spent the first hour or so playing around with the app. Taking the questionnaire, filling out my bio, and setting my match preferences. Within minutes of signing up, I had matches to look at.
Bonus – verified users. Members make a commitment to not flirt and prove their location by sending a photo to the admin team only with a sheet of paper saying you won’t flirt and showing a dollar bill from whatever country you're located in. This verifies that you are from where you say you are from.
The nicest thing about Patook is the ZERO flirting policy. They have a very strict policy and they have ways to check. They will delete accounts for those found in violation. That makes it great for us that are really looking for platonic friends. People are not allowed to use the app as a dating or hookup service! I think that’s my favorite thing about it.
Point system: It’s someone complex, but it does it’s job. Answer honestly and you’ll truly make connections with the types of people that you want. Points are used in 3 different ways.
Part 1 – Earning points. The more you fill out your profile and complete tasks you earn points. Some task include sharing the app, replying to a newcomer, replying in under 12 hours, etc. The points start to build up the more you do within the app or sharing of the app.
Part 2 – Spending points. You can spend points on things like getting your profile visibility boosted or seeing who’s “liked” your profile for a certain amount of time. You can keep using these features as long as you have the points to spend.
Part 3 - After you create your match preferences, people will be ranked by points using your preferences. Every preference has a value attached to it. Things that you don't want have a negative value attached. The higher the points, the better match you are. It’s a quick and easy way to see if you want to spend the time looking over a profile.
Just by reading this post, Patook has offered a coupon code for my readers. After signing up, get premium for 100% free! No additional task to do, no money to pay - just plug in my name “TAMARA” in all caps in the coupon code area and get all the premium features.
In conclusion, if you’re looking to make friends, do check this app out. With any social media app, the more people that join, the more likely you’ll find your people. Try it out! If you do decide to try it out, comment below. I’d love to hear what you think of it.
