Dead Heat was released on March 3rd and of course I had to download it from Audible on the same day. This wasn't mentioned in my TBR video for March, because I actually forgot about it! I seriously have enjoyed everything that I've read by Patricia Briggs! Read on to find out what I thought of the 4th installment of the Alpha & Omega series.

Synopsis: For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles’s role as his father’s enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal, as Charles plans to buy Anna a horse for her birthday. Or at least it starts out that way...
Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae’s cold war with humanity is about to heat up—and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire.
Dead Heat starts off with an prologue. We get a glimpse of an old Fae with an amazing glamour, he can hide from humans and Fae alike. Yet, he's left powerless. Some years later an old lady, a grey Lord, came to him with a gift and a task. She gave him back his magic as the gift, and as far as the task...it's a task that leads to load of trouble for everyone in his wake.
Between Charles and Anna hunting a Fae that spelled the daughter-in-law of the local pack Alpha, pack politics, and dealing with decades old family/drama this makes for an interesting nonstop ride.
The villain in this story is one crazy, demented Fae. He's done some grotesque things which involved putting spells on people, killing children, and other insane things. Why is this crazy Fae on the loose after years of radio silence from him? That's an interesting bit of information that will surely be addressed in the next Mercy Thompson book. Along the way there were references to Mercy, Adam and Samuel. As well as a few appearances from Bran and a two characters from book two, Hunting Ground. I always love when characters from the original series show up in the spin offs.
FBI agent Leslie Fisher is back! For some reason I knew that we'd be seeing this character again and I love it. Leslie is the black FBI agent with the extra large ex-college football playing husband who is now a teacher. She is now a Fae specialist and has moved to Nevada from Boston. Of course Leslie and some agents from the governments paranormal agency help out with the man hunt for this serial killer Fae.
I listened to this on audiobook, same as I have all of the books in the Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega series. Holter Graham returns to narrate another Alpha & Omega story, and he does a great job with all of the characters. I hope he sticks around for all of the books in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Heat and I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for Anna and Charles. If you've read the Mercy Thompson books then you should definitely check out this spin off series. If you've started reading the Alpha & Omega series, then continue on, you'll want to find out what happens next.
Happy Reading & Listening,
~Tamara
