Book Synopsis:
Curiosity is definitely going to get me dead one of these days. Probably real soon. I'm Gin Blanco.
You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I’m retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren’t aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox. Ever since I agreed to help Violet and her grandfather protect their property from an evil coalmining tycoon, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m really retired. So is Detective Donovan Caine. The only honest cop in Ashland is having a real hard time reconciling his attraction to me with his Boy Scout mentality. And I can barely keep my hands off his sexy body. What can I say? I’m a Stone elemental with a little Ice magic thrown in, but my heart isn’t made of solid rock. Luckily, Gin Blanco always gets her man . . . dead or alive.
There were some pretty violent scenes in this book, that were very intense and descriptive. Which I felt were well written and important to the plot development. Don't forget this is an adult book, so expect adult situations. These books aren't for those who aren't prepared for brutal fight scenes.
We get to experience some more character development of Gin, which is nice to see. I feel that it'll be fun going on this journey of her discovery of herself as well as her elemental magic. Also, I'm looking forward to the pursuit of finding the little sister Gin thought was dead and the elemental which killer her family and tortured her. By the way, Gin figures out who that is, but I'm going to give it away!
What didn't I like? Donovan! I liked him in the last book, but now I just think he's a big crybaby! Lol. Yes, I called the man a crybaby! I'm officially Team Owen! I'm not even really sure if Gin can trust Owen yet. but I can tell right off that he has more guts than Donovan could even wish to have. Not to mention, that Owen actually wants to be with Gin. Which is way more that I can say for Donovan.
If you're wondering if you should continue on and read the second book, I say "Yes!". Basically, if you loved Spider's Bite, you'll enjoy Web of Lies. I looking forward to picking up the third book. Venom.
A few of my favorite quotes from the book:
“You could just run over him," I said. "He's already dead, and it's not like you haven't done it before."
“This is an Aston Martin, Gin.You don't run over dead bodies in an Aston Matin."
“Donovan Caine wanted me, but he wasn’t strong enough to accept me. Not my past, not my strength, not the woman I was."
Happy Reading,
~Tamara~
