Synopsis: Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen...

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

I. Can. Not. Get. Enough. Of. This. Series!  Why, you ask?  Samuel, Adam, and Stefan, enough said.  Just kidding, well mostly.  I am truly amazed by how Briggs is able to squeeze so much story into such a short book!  It seems like every other book that I've read with this much depth, character development and action are all over 400 pages! Apparently this is a skill that she's mastered.

I adore Mercy. She's got her life together, but she's not perfect. She's brave, but she has fears. She's strong, but she's also weak when it comes to those she cares about. She juggles men and villains with out breaking a sweat. This installment starts off with Stefan calling in the favor that Mercy owns him for some help he gave her in Moon Called.

On top of her werewolf problems, Mercy is pulled into the world of vampires, ghosts and demons. The paranormal level of this book is off the charts.  She's up against the clock trying to save Stefan, save Sam, save Adam, and kill a demon ridden vampire/Sorcerer with a tad bit of Fae help of course!  She’s a busy lady saving all these powerful men!  I know how that could seem a bit cheesy, but believe me when I say, it's a well put together story

The new presence of a demon has really thrown the wolves into a frenzy. Apparently it's hard for werewolves to control their wolf when demons are around. The demons in this world feed on anger and fighting and everything that one would expect. The demon ridden vampire/Sorcerer is on a rampage killing and framing a few choice vamps in the process.   When it comes down to it, Vamps and wolves alike are being controlled. Who doesn't fall prey to the control? A coyote of course.

Aside from saving everyone, Mercy has to contend with Sam's confession of wanting to be with her again, Adam wanting to date her and now....yes. You know what else.  I called it at the end of the last book. Now it looks like Stefan will be throwing his hat into the "I want to be with Mercy" ring too!  I must admit that I do like that this average looking chic gets so many men wanting her. Not to lessen the fact that she can work on any VW, change into a coyote, verbally and physically spar with the best of them and is her own person.

We meet several few new faces in this book, both good and bad, both human and paranormal characters. I'm sure that a few of the new secondary characters will be making future appearances.  In addition to the ever present pack dynamic always going on, there are also a lot of vampire hierarchy issues happening as well. The head of their local community seems to be loosing her footing and there is infighting among the stronger vampires.

This is my new favorite audio series, so of course I've got to mention the narrator, Lorelei King. This lady rocks.  King's stellar narrating skills paired with a great story makes this  a really good audio book option.

As you all know, I don't give 5 bookmark ratings lightly, and this one earns it!  I recommend this series. If you're a fan of werewolf and shapechanger themed stories then this is right up your alley. If you're looking try it out, then this would be a great place to start.

Happy Reading,
~Tamara
