Synopsis: In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.
Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever
Overall, the premise of the story was interesting, but the pace was unbelievably slow. Seriously, I fell asleep too many times to count during this audio.....and that just doesn't happen to me! Thus I was constantly rewinding to re-listen to parts that I fell asleep on.
The one thing that I did like that was in improvement over Matched was that we got to hear from two different POVs. Kai's and Cassia's. I do feel like even though they are two different characters narrating, their differences weren't predominate enough. If I was reading instead of listening, I could see how I could get lost on who's chapter it was. Thank goodness the audio had both female and male narrators to clarify things.
The female narrator reading for Cassia is the same from Matched, which was nice to hear her again. It helped keep the same feel to Cassia. I also liked the voice of the man that read for Kai. He had a good mature voice, where Kai didn't sound like a child like Cassia did at times.
Like I said, the premise of the story was interesting and different. There was a lot of potential there, I just didn't feel that it reached as far as it could have. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't enjoy it that much either. In the end, not even the cliffhanger could keep me hanging on to this series. I will not continue on and read the final book Reached. I'm over it. Moving on.
