Synopsis: I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings.
But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl. One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead.
Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. Which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance one of us won’t survive this battle. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too.
The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling . . . or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead. . . .
In a one word, Gin is awesome. She can kick but and take names, yet at the same time she's starting to show her soft side, both with her makeshift family, Owen and her sister Bria. I was excited that her sister finally knows who she is. The secret between them couldn't have gone on forever.
We experienced Gin's vulnerability in Tangled Threads. It really shows by her acceptance and fear of the very real possibility that she would lose a fight and die trying to protect her family and friends. Assassin, Elektra LaFleu, who wields the element of electricity has Gin nervous and we almost saw her sweat! Lucky for Gin, as in the last three books, her elemental powers seem grow exactly at the precise time that she needs them the most.
Do you know the saying, "Go hard or go home."? Well, that's Ms. Esteps writing style with both the fights and romance! The fights are action packed. violent, bloody and are no joke! On the flip side, the bedroom scenes between Owen and Gin are just as serious, but in a hot and steamy way!
I have a feeling that the showdown with Mab is on the horizon, probably in the next book. No doubt that will be the fight of all fights. On the romance side of things, I adore Gin with Owen. I hope she'll soon stop comparing him to lame ass Donovan...Let's move on Gin!
Good read, good ending. I'm looking forward to #5, Spider’s Revenge! Bring it on!
Happy Reading,
~Tamara
