Throwback Thursday is my weekly feature which I created to post a review that I've written from the past. Every week I will post a review that I've written prior to my blogs existence. I'll be sharing both the books that I think you'd enjoy and the books that I should warn you against wasting your time on! ;-)

This week I'm posting Queen of Shadows. I decided to post this because book four, Of Shadow Born (Shadow World, #4), just came out last week, which I'll be reviewing sometime this month.  I feel like this series started out "good", but I like it, and so far, I think that with each book the story gets better and better.

Synopsis: Shortly after she picked up a guitar, Miranda Grey conquered the Austin music scene with a newfound ability to psychically manipulate her audience’s emotions. But as her powers outgrow her control, her mind is increasingly invaded by haunting secrets and overwhelming sadness. Unable to look anyone in the eye, Miranda is fast approaching the edge of insanity – with no one to catch her fall…

When he outlawed killing humans, David Solomon ignited a civil war among Austin’s vampires. As Prime of the South, his sympathy for mortals angered the old guard who refuse to control their violent urges. David has his hands full with the growing insurgency, but he takes in a broken-down woman, a musician in need of supernatural guidance. Little does he know that Miranda Grey has the power to change his world as well.

Pretty good book. Fast paced and fun read. A little lighter on the romance that I’m used to for these kind of books, but I have no problem with that. The main protagonist, Miranda survives a terrible attach which leaves her damaged in more ways than one. David "rescues" or really helps her rescue herself. I wasn’t surprised at all by how things turned out. Apparently in this vampire universe, the world is ruled by Kings (Primes) and their Queens, they rule by territory. Now that I think about it, they whole King thing sounds kinda sorta like True Blood.
David is the Prime of the South and he is very powerful and he takes Miranda in and helps her learn about her empathic abilities. Amongst all of the crazy things going on with Vampires killing humans, people trying to take him down, and teaching Miranda, he starts to fall for her (surprise surprise). Knowing that she is human and all that she has been through, he feels they cannot be together. He also feels that being away from her will keep her safe. Once it’s somewhat safe for her to return to her regular life, David returns her to Austin all set up in a new place. Basically she carries on, but still doesn’t feel confident in her abilities to protect herself. Miranda looks to Faith, David’s second in command, asking to be taught to fight. Faith hooks her up with another vampire who proceeds to train Miranda. She trains, she grows stronger, David gets back in touch with her…I don’t want to tell everything, but basically it’s the standard formula for most Paranormal Romances, so if you’ve read enough of them, you know how it’s going to end.

I’m going to move on to read the next book and hopefully it will be just as fast of a read.

Happy Reading,
~Tamara
