Synopsis: The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters . . . Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?
Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir's and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?
I can see the writing on the wall for the next book and I'm really starting to wonder who she's going to end up with. Even though it seems almost a lost cause, there is a faint possibility that Dimitri can be "cured".... and it's clear that Rose is going to shoot for that option. That is if he doesn't come and try to kill her first. Then of course, there's Adrian is around wanting her. I can tell she is starting to like him in a way more than just friends. We'll see. I liked that Rose got to be a part of Dimitri's family, if only for a short time.
I also loved that Abe was her father! I guessed that. He seemed kind of paternal toward her, even when threatening her. When Rose's mom noticed the scarf, I was glad to see that she was straight with her about how she knew Abe and didn't try to lie. That will make a interesting dynamic in the future. Abe coming to the rescue once in a while...or helping when he can. Like he did at the end by trying bribe information from Victor.
The Alchemy (not sure I'm remembering the name correctly) was another aspect that was pretty interesting. It seems like Rose made an ally there that we may see again in future books.
It was kind of unfortunate that Lissa was almost killed. But of course she will always be the focus of some kind of Moroi murder plot. Too bad about Christian breaking up with her. I'm sure they'll bounce back. How interesting with all of these spirit users popping up everywhere. Their spirit powers seem to be getting more and more outlandish. But interesting.
Lots of things going on in this book that will keep you turning the pages to hurry through it!
Have you read Blood Promise? If so, what did you think of it?
Happy Reading,
~Tamara
