The first book in this series was good, but it wasn't excellent. I did however fell vested enough to continue on, then before you knew it, the Vampire Academy books turned into one of my favorite YA Urban Fantasy series! I'm so glad that I went on to read book two, because it was worth it! I'll be posting for the next 6 weeks all of the VA reviews. I read this series in 2011, and it's #2 on my re-read list!

Synopsis: St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
I’d say about 1/3 way into it is where things really started to pick up and I started to get interested in what was going on. As the book progressed I definitely started to like the story and the characters more. Over all the book was decent but not as good as I expected based on all the positive reviews I previously read. Am I reading the same book as the reviewers?…Or are the reviewers mostly teens? I don’t know. Regardless, I feel like I want to give this series another try. I’ll go ahead and read the next book and see if I like it any better.
Happy Reading,
~Tamara
